DESCRIPTION:This year’s International ShakeOut Day is October 17 at 10:17 AM when millions of people worldwide will participate in earthquake drills at work\, school\, or home! This is a good opportunity for licensed Ham Operators to practice their Emergency Communication skills and and to test their readiness. Is your go-kit ready?  \n\n\n\nAt 10:17 a.m.\, duck\, cover\, and hold on\, (or at least think about what you would do)\, when you feel the shaking begin.  After the shaking stops\, take care of yourself\, take care of your family\, and take care of your neighbors. \n\n\n\nOnce you are able to\, and if it’s safe to do so\, grab your go-kit radio and check into the SCARES repeater resource net at 444.500 MHz\, + offset\, CTCSS=100 Hz; or 146.445 MHz simplex\, CTCSS=114.8 Hz. \n\n\n\nMark Reynolds (KN6SRN) will be the emergency net control. Follow his instructions. Remember to say “this is only a drill”\, and to give your callsign at the end of each transmission. If you arrive before Mark\, you can start and run the net until Mark arrives. Keep a log of who checks in\, their locations\, status\, and availability for deployment. When Mark checks in\, make him Net control and pass him your log information.

Mr. Bond will update us on his background\, share his initial thoughts after working at MP for about a month\, and introduce us to his FEMA Search & Rescue dog! His talk will include Q&A. The meeting will also include an interactive\, small group discussions (in table groups) to discuss and brainstorm fun and easy-to-implement social events on the block. \n\n\n\nWe will also update you on our Pilot Program for a Neighborhood Gathering Place for a post disaster situation. We applied for\, and received\, a $4K Community Funding grant from the City of Menlo Park for this purpose. We want to make it easier for Block Coordinators\, or equivalent\, to help pull together the members of the block to check in on neighbors\, to solve block problems where possible\, and to report critical situations to the City of Menlo Park. DESCRIPTION:Atherton’s annual Earth Day Festival is being held on Sunday\, April 21 at Holbrook-Palmer park\, 150 Watkins Ave\,  Atherton.  MPCReady and Atherton’s ADAPT will be there with information on how to prepare your household and family for major emergencies and disasters.   Please visit us at the MPC Ready table.   \n\n\n\nThe event is a fun celebration for all ages.   Seniors\, families with kids\, everyone.   There will be Art exhibits\, Live music\, Food trucks\, and lots of activities.   This year there will even be live sheep!  Come and see and help celebrate Earth Day.   \n\n\n\nBiking to the event is encouraged and there will be a bike valet and safe parking for cyclists.  Plenty of parking for vehicles\, but car pool if you can.
